SUMMARY:Importance of Fasting on the Day of Ashura
DESCRIPTION:Join us to know more about the significance and the misconceptions that people have about the observance of this day. \nRuling:\nIbn Abbas said ” I never saw the prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) more concerned about fasting than on the day of Ashura\, and in the month of Ramadan. \nOn this day Moses and Noah were both saved from Firoun’s army and the flood. \nFasting is recommended on the day of Ashura and the day of Tasua’s\, and they are the 10th and 9 the of the month of Muharam. This is due to the prophet محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم statement “وصوم يوم عاشوراء يكفر سنه ماضية” رواه مسلم\n“And fasting the Day of Ashura expiates the previous year (i.e its sins\, if major sins were avoided ). \nAnd just as he صلى الله عليه وسلم fasted the Day of Ashura and ordered the people to fast it\, he said ” فإذا كان العام المقبل ان شاء الله صمنا اليوم التاسع”\n“When the next year comes\, if Allah wills we shall fast the ninth day as well” narrated by Muslim and Abu Daoud. This means he recommended to fast a day before the 10th of Muharam or a day after it. \nQ&A Session:\nSheikh Aref Hamad will deliver the talk and hold a Q&A session afterwards in sha Allah. \n

SUMMARY:Islamophobia - Rights and Responsibilities of Muslim Community in America
DESCRIPTION:It is undeniable that we are witnessing unprecedented levels of anti-Islam sentiment in the U.S. Imagine stepping out of your house of worship and seeing a group of screaming\, belligerent hecklers ripping apart your holy book – spitting on and stomping on the pages.  Imagine being shouted down\, and told your faith is a lie by a group of people flashing gaudy\, hate-filled signs and matching tee-shirts.  This has become the reality for worshipers at the Islamic Community Center of Tempe and many other Muslim places of worship across America. \nMost of the Muslim community in America and specially our community in Cypress is unaware of their legal rights under the constitution of United States Of America. To educate our community of their rights and responsibility\, CIC with collaboration of CAIR has arranged a seminar \nCAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam\, encourage dialogs\, protect civil liberties\, empower American Muslims\, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.\nCAIR believes Islamophobia in the United States is a current manifestation of the issue of prejudice that has plagued our nation since its earliest days. It is the same old hate\, just with a relatively new target. American Muslims \, With this in mind\, CAIR is dedicated to countering prejudice in general.
